Substance Abuse - Signs & Symptoms
What are the signs and symptoms of substance abuse?
- Preoccupation - Preoccupied with drinking or using drugs
- Tolerance - The need to drink or use greater amounts of alcohol or drugs to get "high."
- Physical Dependence - Withdrawal symptoms, such as nausea, sweating, shakiness, and anxiety after stopping drinking or using drugs.
- Craving - A strong need, or urge, to drink or use drugs.
- Mood Swings - Nervousness, irritability, oversensitivity
- School/Work Performance - Skipping school or work, or arriving late on a regular basis.
- Eating Habits - Loss of appetite or increase in appetite; noticeable weight loss or gain.
- Cash - Unexplained need for money or valuables go missing around the home.
- Trouble with the Law - DWI, possession, theft, etc.
